Baptism/Easter and 6 months old

My Baby Girl is now officially a member of the Christian faith. She was held by her little toes and dunked head first into the baptismal font. She didn't even cry. Ok, as Methodist we don't dunk by the toes. She was held by the preacher and he placed his hand with the Holy water on her full head of hair and baptized her. I was really nervous that she would cry, but she just looked around curiously and acted like the sweet little girl that she is. There wasn't an empty seat in the whole church and the Easter flowers filled the sanctuary with color and fragrance. It couldn't have been a more beautiful setting to have Sallie Rose baptized.

We really enjoyed our weekend. Sallie's Mayme, Grumps, Aunt Tara, Faux Aunt Shayla, and the Long Family came into town. I threw a bowling party for Kevin on Friday night, we toured around River Street on Saturday, had Easter service and lunch at the Westin on Sunday and cried on Monday when my family left. There was a lot going on and Sallie Roro seemed to handle it all very well. I was tired, but got a little extra sleep because Aunt Tara slept in Sallie's room and was in charge of getting up in the middle of the night to stick the pacifier back in Sallie's mouth. I enjoyed that. I think Tara might have enjoyed it too, especially since she stayed up until 2 am every night!!!

Sallie Rose is now officially six months old. She can now wear sunscreen, sleep with stuffed animals all over crib (we won't do that even though we can), eat more solid foods, get more shots, and drive (her tot rider) to the backyard. A lot changes when you turn 6 months old. She is growing up so fast. Before I know it, she will be chomping on meat with her two front teeth. She really is a happy girl. She smiles a lot, squeals like a girl, and laughs at her Daddy. It makes you feel so good when you walk in the room and she smiles like she hasn't seen you in years. She sure has the ability to change my mood and Kevin's too. The economy might be bad, the stock market might crash, we might be living in a tent under the bridge, or wearing torn clothes, but no matter what happens, when we both see that baby smile at us, we forget it all. The Lord knows what he is doing when he gives someone the gift of a child.
The crazy thing is that we have so much more the look forward to and we will love her more and more each day. How is that possible? My cup runeth over already. I guess I need to get a much larger cup.

It has finally happened

Well, it is finally official. After all these months of Sallie Rose drooling all over herself and everyone who holds her, a tiny, white, baby tooth has arrived. She has not been sleeping real well for the last week and the night before last she was up the first half of the night non-stop. We thought it was her tummy, we thought it was the fact that her eye was covered in gunk, we thought she was just playing an April Fool's joke on us and now we know, SHE HAS HER FIRST TOOTH!

I suppose we should be very grateful that she wasn't up all night screaming. She does not seem to have too much pain from it, but she is obviously effected by it somewhat. Of course it is just barely breaking the skin so we might have some screaming nights coming. I will cross my fingers and hope for her sake it is not that painful.

I guess compared to the mean, old man doctor scraping out her ear wax with a metal Q-tip, a tooth ain't all that bad for her.

My apologies

I just realized that I have not made an update in almost a month. I am so sorry to you very, very few people that read this. I know I really look forward to seeing updates on other people's blogs and I am sorry that you have not been able to click on our blog and see new pictures of Sallie RoRo (her new nickname).

We have been pretty crazy lately. I went to Dallas for my sister's Surprise Birthday and Kevin and Sallie had a "Dad-daughter" weekend. They had a wonderful time and Kevin even took her to church in the right outfit. I doubt that he brushed her hair, but everyone knows she has the crazy hair thing going. She has the mohawk mullet. It is really nice! So, it took me a long time to recover from the airline chaos, dancing with my sisters, and drinking weekend.

I finally feel somewhat normal again and now we are having a problem with thieves in our neighborhood. My car got "rummaged" through last weekend and this weekend Kevin's tailgate got stolen. Who does that? I don't know.....JERKS! That's who. So, needless to say, Kevin and I are both on edge at night and not sleeping very well. Every time we hear a noise, we both jump up and run to the window. I supposed we should at least take turns jumping out of bed. It doesn't take two of us. We will eventually quit trying to catch the thieves and then they will probably come back that night and get our planters or wind chime. Take it all, just don't come in my house and harm my family!

Other than that, Sallie Rose is adorable, sweet and fun! She is growing so much and really has become a fun little person to be around. Very pleasant baby-unless of course she is hungry or tired. She will be baptized this weekend in front of a church full of Easter goers and then will help her Daddy celebrate his 50th birthday and she will turn 6 months old. That girl is busy.

I will be sure and post some baptism photos as well as her weekend with her Aunt Tara, Mayme, and Grumps. She can't wait to see them. She tells me everyday how much she is looking forward to their visit.

5 Months

Oh my goodness, it's that time of the month again. Sallie Rose's month birthday. She woke up the same as she has for the last couple of months, smiling as big as she can and so excited that someone had come to reach in her big, white crib to take her to eat some formula. However, this month she is upside down in the crib with the bottom half of her pajamas off. She wears a sleep sack to bed and when I get her out of it, her pajama legs are completely off. She moves so much during her sleep now. Either that or she gets too hot, takes off her sleep sack, unbuttons her bottom half and zips her sleep sack back up. She is smart, but don't know that she is that smart.

She changes so much everyday and is growing so much. She officially rolled over onto her stomach the day before her 5 month birthday. The "books" say that rolling from her back to stomach would be the most difficult, but she can do that and can't figure out how to roll back. She rolls over in the middle of the night and cries for us to come roll her back over. Darn kid. It's kind of cute watching her on the monitor trying to roll back over. Kevin worries that she will not be able to turn back over and harm herself trying. She'll figure it out one day and I can go back to sleeping all night.
Let's see what else is new this fifth month??? She is beginning to be able to sit up on her own. She eats rice cereal and is now on Mom's homemade butternut squash. Next will be sweet potatoes. I swore I wouldn't take the time to make our own baby food, but after a few great suggestions from Kam and Teri and giving it a good ole fashion try, I decided to do it. It was not that time consuming and I really enjoy cooking and making my family healthy meals. It makes me think that I am making my Grandma Rosa proud by being somewhat of a housewife. She always wanted to know how many times a week I cooked. Uhhh, none. Not anymore. I cook about 3 or 4 nights a week. Wooo hooo, housewife of the year!!!
Sallie Rose loves her tot rider, kindermusik, laying in the park with Mom, hanging out with Aunt Susan, playing with Nana and Pop Pop (Kevin's parents), and practicing walking with Daddy. I took her to the playground on St. Patrick's Day and she loved watching the kids play. She absolutely loves other kids. Other than that, she is a great baby and is giggling more and more everyday. Kevin and I both feel that every night when she goes to bed she wakes up the next morning having grown and developed so much over night. I am beginning to get that feeling of her growing up too fast already. This is the point where she goes from needing to be rocked and held to not wanting to sit still and we can't get a good 5 minute rock in. I will definitely miss that long rock and quiet time at night before bed.
Sallie Rose, Mom loves you and is excited about you growing and becoming more and more of a little person. You are beautiful, sweet, fun, and an all around good baby. Happy 5 month birthday! Oh, and thanks for being a good sleeper most of the time. I am not good at functioning on little sleep.

Spring time in the South on Sunday

The azaleas are blooming, the sun is shining, the bees are buzzing and Sallie Rose is growing. Lots of pictures, but I just couldn't decide which ones were the cutest. We enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the park. Daddy is really protective of her skin and was very adamant about her wearing her sunshade hat. I didn't mind cause it looks so cute.

On the Move

Sallie Rose has a new favorite toy. This was a hand me down from one of my best friend's mom. She had it in her attic and her grandchildren are all too old for it, so she passed it down to Sallie Rose. It has really come in handy. She loves to stand in it and can actually move it already.

The name of the toy is Tot Rider, and it and Sallie Rose have a theme song. It goes like this: Go Tot Rider, Tot Rider, Tot tot rider (It is a lot catchier when you hear it). Fastest, four wheeled, slobber covered toy in the neighborhood. What a great toy and it didn't cost us a dime. Thanks Miss Lindy Aiken!
